Summary: | Peritoneal clearance of urea and creatinine, glu- cose absorption, and peritonealultrafiltration were measured in CAPD patients with and without pe- ritonitis to study the effects of peritonitis on pe- ritoneal solute transport and ultrafiltration. Clearance of urea and creatinine and glucose absorption increased and ultrafiltration decreased during peritonitis. The results of this study confirm findings by others that peritonitis enhances peritoneal solute transport and at the same time reduces ultrafiltra- tion by increasing peritoneal capillary permeabi- tily; |
