Summary:Clinical studies on HBV markers and clinical pictures of acute viral hepatitis with icterus (50 cases) and without icterus(33 cases) were carried out during the period from April 1978 to September 1982. The results were follows: 1) The sex distribution was 34 in male and 16 in female with a mean age of 31. 2 among icteric types, and 26 in male and 7 in female with a mean of 33. 5 among anicteric types. 2) Frequency of symptoms was significantly less in anicteric types than icteric types and frequeny of signs was less in anicteric types than icteric types, but there were no significant differences between both types. 3) On the biochemical liver function studies, total serum bilirubin, transaminase and TTT were significantly less increased and serum albumin was significantly more decreased in anicteric types than icteric types, while alkaline phosphatase and serum globulin showed no significant difference between both types. 4) Except chronic cases, average duration of abnormal SGPT appeared to be longer in anicteric types than icteric types. 5) The incidence of HBsAg, Anti-HBc and HBeAg was more frequent in anictcric types than icteric types, but there were no significant differences between both types except the incidence of HBeAg. 6) Tendency to chronicity and progression to chronic active hepatitis from acute viral hepatitis were significantly more frequent in anicteric types than in icteric types.
