Summary: | In the late 1920s Grenville Goodwin, the anthropologist whose letters form the contents of this volume, embarked upon a longrange program of linguistic and ethnographic research among the Western Apache Indians of Arizona. Although Goodwin was not the first social scientist to become interested in these people, he was unquestionably the most dedicated and thorough, and by the time of his death in 1940 he was intimately familiar with virtually every aspect of Western Apache culture.
