Summary:The effects of the roughness R_a and the erain size D at the surface and the interface of Co/Pd multilayers on the magnetic properties were investigated. Increase of the number of Co/Pd bilayers caused slight increase of surface roughness D, resulting in slight increase of perpendicular coercivity H_c and nucleation field |H_n|. Addition of Pd under layer caused the enlargement of surface roughness of the multilayers and the decrease of α(=4π(dM/dH)_<H=Hc>) and increase of H_c. It was effective for understanding origins of magnetic properties to prepare Co and Pd layers at different Ar gas pressure P_. It is necessary to prepare Pd layer with high Ar gas pressure to attain higher |H_n|. Enlargement of surface roughness R_a is essentially required to decrease α.
