Uncoupled defect modes in a two-dimensional quasiperiodicphotonic crystal

The defect modes of a two-dimensional quasiperiodic photonic crystal (QPC) with defects are studied. It is found that if the defects possess the same rotational symmetry, the resonant frequencies of the defects are identical. On the other hand, uncoupled modes exist when the field symmetry of defect...

Summary:The defect modes of a two-dimensional quasiperiodic photonic crystal (QPC) with defects are studied. It is found that if the defects possess the same rotational symmetry, the resonant frequencies of the defects are identical. On the other hand, uncoupled modes exist when the field symmetry of defect modes is different from that of external exciting waves. A corresponding experiment in the microwave region confirms the phenomenon.
