Summary: | It is hard to imagine that there is anybody in this country who will not have heard of AIDS. To that extent the government campaign has done its job. You can hardly switch on your radio or television or open a newspaper without hearing about it. AIDS is well known as the twentieth century plague. There is much good and valid information and discussion on the subject but there is also much scaremongering and many myths. Anxiety and fear is common amongst prisoners and prison officers alike. Much of this fear is founded on confusion. This chapter will attempt to sort out the facts from the fiction and will consider some of the implications for work in prisons. |
