Summary:Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), a positive-stranded RNA virus reported in late 2019, sparked the current coronavirus illness known as the COVID-19 pandemic which has aroused worldwide health concerns. Many chemical compounds having antiviral activity are currently being investigated to find probable therapies for SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. Various bioactive compounds which are already being used to cure several diseases have been documented to possess antiviral properties. These may serve as potential drug candidates against SARS-CoV-2. Such compounds are derived from diverse biological sources like algae, marine sponges and herbal medicinal plants, and others have been identified to have potential to treat COVID infection by either acting as nucleotide analogs, by targeting various viral components like S glycoprotein, 3CLpro and Plpro, RdRp, or by employing other specified mechanisms against viral replication. In this chapter, we aim to document potential bioactive compounds that have been identified to act as likely anti-corona viral drugs. We believe this chapter will act as a comprehensive resource containing information on all bioactive compounds that can inhibit viral replication and hence act as a crucial solution to combat the pandemic.
