Summary:The aim of this paper is to discuss a new receiver concept that will improve advanced TDMA system radio link performance. To demonstrate the usefulness of our approach, we choose to adopt the system parameters of Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) in our simulations. The disclosed receiver is based on a sub-optimal trellis-based soft-in soft-out (SISO) equalizer and SISO decoder The principle is to perform channel estimation, equalization, and decoding in an iterative fashion (i.e turbo equalization). Furthermore, we show that incremental redundancy, the sophisticated retransmission scheme retains for EDGE, can favourably benefit from such a receiver.
