Summary:Summary form only given. The theoretical enhancement of second harmonic (SH) generation at the band edge of a periodic, quarter-wave/half-wave PBG structure has been previously discussed. The structure was chosen so that both the pump and second harmonic fields were tuned near the first- and second-order band edges respectively. In the present work, we extend this kind of consideration to a more general parametric interaction scheme, such as down and up frequency conversion with the aim of proposing suitable materials configurations to reach blue spectral region and IR spectral region. The phase matching conditions are established through the application of the "interferometric effective index". Numerical pulse propagation is also presented.
