Summary:Adaptive control of resources for media processing and transmission in distributed multimedia services constitutes the main topic of this paper. We have developed an adaptive control framework (ACF), with various adaptive control schemes supported by control mechanisms and algorithms. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of these control mechanisms and algorithms responsible for initiating, coordinating, and executing different control schemes for real-time resource adjustment and revision. A lightweight transport protocol is proposed, which is used for exchanging control messages in ACF. Simulation and implementation of these agents, as well as our future research direction, are also reported.
