Concept for the X-SAR/SRTM data utilization

With the X-SAR/SRTM Mission for the first time a high resolution digital elevation model of all landmasses between +60/spl deg/ and -58/spl deg/ will be generated. DLR will process its model in a timeframe of 2 years after the mission, which is scheduled for September 1999. Parallel to the developme...

More Information
Summary:With the X-SAR/SRTM Mission for the first time a high resolution digital elevation model of all landmasses between +60/spl deg/ and -58/spl deg/ will be generated. DLR will process its model in a timeframe of 2 years after the mission, which is scheduled for September 1999. Parallel to the development of the mission hardware, the mission planning and the processing software, an effort was launched to coordinate the utilization activities planned for the X-SAR/SRTM DEMs. A concept for the utilization of the X-SAR/SRTM DEMs with its most important elements is presented. Furthermore, an overview on the response to the DLR Announcement of Opportunity on X-SAR/SRTM data exploitation will be given, followed by a brief presentation about potential scientific, operational and commercial applications.
