Study of the stabilization by a B/sub Z/ magnetic field of the slow implosion of a long liner in Centre d'Etude de Gramat

Summary form only given. The stabilization of the implosion of a 15 cm long, 5 cm initial radius, 15 mg tungsten wire array liner, by a B/sub z/ magnetic field is studied. This liner is driven by a 3 MA, 600 ns rise time current, and the B, field is created by a twisted return current. The stability...

Summary:Summary form only given. The stability of the implosion itself will first be studied with no twist in the return current, and then, different twist angles will allow the study of the influence of the amplitude of the magnetic field on the stabilization of the liner. Some theoretical results and numerical simulations will be presented, as well as the early experimental results.
