Summary:To eliminate the negative influence of the Automatic Voltage Regulator, AVR, on the generator power swings, a supplementary control loop is usually used which is called Power System Stabilizer, PSS. Different Methods have been developed for the PSS design. Among them are the methods which are based on the state control concept. These methods are all based on an assumption that the states are available. But in many cases, they are not available and so an observer must be designed to get their information. In this paper, by solving the HJB equation for a single machine system, a nonlinear state controller is developed as the PSS. Moreover an EKF is employed for the state estimation. Proposed Method was implemented on a typical power system. Computer simulation shows that the proposed PSS and estimator have good performance.
