Controlled thermal emission of infrared waves based on engineered metallic nanostructures

Thermal emission of linearly polarized and narrow-band mid-infrared waves from sub-wavelength gratings of narrow and deep plasmon cavities engraved on a Au surface has been demonstrated, and applied to simple chemical analysis.
