Summary:A new procedure for registering brain MRI from different individuals with large anatomical differences is presented, and applied to the registration of images of patients with a brain tumor with an atlas. The key steps are the implantation of a synthetic tumor in the atlas and a novel robust image registration technique. Application of this procedure to the determination of abnormalities in the electrical activity of patients with brain tumors is presented as well.
