Summary: | Summary form only given. Nanotechnology, the ability to control and manipulate materials at the molecular level to create new functionalities, offers unprecedented opportunities in medicine and biology. This symposium highlights a few of these novel approaches and applications of nanotechnology: the application of fundamental principles of photosynthesis to artificial sight systems, biopolymer-inspired approaches to manipulating intracellular trafficking for applications to therapeutics and vaccines, and biomolecular recognition and control of nanomagnetic and semiconductor materials. The symposium will conclude with an overview of current efforts focused in medicine and biology opportunities, and technology transfer from discovery to commercialization. |
