Summary:Currently, manual inspection and video inspection methods used for detecting cable dropouts in tunnels suffer from low efficiency and issues such as missed detections and false alarms. To address these problems, this paper proposes an RFID-based method for monitoring cable dropouts in tunnels. Using HFSS software, modeling and simulation were conducted for the cable and receiving antenna, yielding the transmission and coupling losses at distances of 2 meters and 10 centimeters from the antenna to the cable. By combining these results with the linear attenuation characteristics of the cable transmission, the distance between the RFID tag and the transmitter was calculated, allowing for the precise localization of cable dropouts. The method was validated to accurately determine and locate cable dropouts using RFID technology.
