Summary:Distribution system is a vital part of electrical utility structure and it has a valuable role in interconnected power system. Conventional schemes for distribution system protection are likely to suffer to severe threats with different faults occurring in a distribution system. The faults may occur anywhere in the power network and needs to be isolated as fast as possible. In this paper, a protection system is developed for radial and hybrid distribution system in which a relay algorithm is designed and implemented to get the minimal operating time of a relay. Unsymmetrical faults and triple line fault is simulated on radial and hybrid distribution system. The switching time of the relevant relay is minimal which encourages using the relay logic criteria in a hardware. Further the results are validated for the prototype.
