Summary:This work presents an LC-VCO with degeneration resistor core-based topology, Switched Varactors Array (SVA) for discrete frequency control and Switched Cross-Coupled Core (SCC) for power optimization. The SVA application allows an extended tuning range enhancement, and the SCC structure defines the proper power level, according to the working frequency. From V CC = 1.2V and bias current I DC = 2.47 to 10.3 mA, a phase noise PN = -125.4 to -130.5 dBc/Hz@1MHz is obtained for different frequency conditions, considering a tuning range FTR = 94% (FoM T = -210). The schematic level design was performed in Cadence environment by applying TSMC 65 nm CMOS technology.
