Summary:Water treatment plant (WTP) residuals are the byproducts of the water treatment process. They are formed when suspended solids in the raw water react with chemicals such as coagulants added during the treatment processes. The management of these WTP residuals is a significant concern due to the potential environmental and health impact regarding their disposal. This paper presents a study on the design of experimental (DOE) in optimizing the preparation conditions of microwave and oven heated WTP residuals. The DOE uses multiple linear regression analysis which focuses on the significant impact of parameters involved during the heating process of WTP residuals. The result from DOE shows two different parameters having significant impacts which are microwave power (Watt) and temperature (ͦC) whereas time has no significant impact on the development of carbonized material. Similar results were shown for the oven-heated process as only the temperature of the oven (ͦC) and the temperature of the residuals (ͦC) had a significant impact on the production of the carbonized material.
