Summary:The field of education is witnessing an endless growth in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AL). One of the recent AL applications in education is chatbot technology, which is being used to assist in teaching and administrative tasks. Due to the rise in students' population, education is gradually shifting towards online learning platforms. Moreover, some students are afraid to ask questions in class, fearing possible mockery by their peers, which is a problem that needs to be addressed also. Chatbot systems can be used to tackle these problems and teach specific subjects, but this area has not been explored extensively. This work proposes a chatbot system named SMat-Bot which helps students to understand mathematics and solve mathematics problems. The chatbot was trained using a deep learning technique - Transformer Neural Network, designed primarily for the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The implementation of the SMat-Bot made use of Flutter, Django, and a chatbot API called Openai API; all in Python Programming environment. Performance evaluation of the SMat-Bot was carried out and the result showed the SMat-Bot can provide students with the necessary support and privacy to understand and solve mathematical problems at their own will.
