Summary:Direct measurements of the terminal level relaxation time of Nd:YAG laser transition with 1064 nm wavelength were fulfilled based on the gain recovery diagnostics after picosecond saturating pulse passage through the amplifying medium. Experimental results clearly demonstrate that the relaxation time of the terminal level does not exceed 70 ps. The obtained result seems important in view of developing effective longitudinally diode-pumped amplifiers operating near the saturation conditions with a short interval between successive passes through the gain medium.
