Summary:Satellite and mobile communication technologies have been run on separate standards for a long time. However, with the 5G standards, as of Rel.15, efforts to integrate satellite technologies into mobile communications have been initiated. In this context, the integration of solutions in different non-terrestrial network layers, especially low altitude (LEO) and geostationary (GEO), with terrestrial networks is observed. Türkiye has achieved the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks using the technologies developed by ULAK and TURKSAT within the scope of Phase-3 studies of the Universal Project, which is planned to bring a wireless communication network to rural areas. Thus, coverage will be provided via TURKSAT satellites in regions where terrestrial networks are inadequate. In this study, the studies within the scope of Universal Project Phase-3 will be discussed; Future studies will be discussed along with system architectures and field data.
