Summary:Summary form only given. In this presentation, a direct, non-destructive and highly accurate method based on Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC) microscopy method is considered for investigating FBGs. The Nomarski DIC microscopy is a method that allows the enhancement of the contrast of phase structures. The method relies on the interference of a pair of wave fronts to generate contrast and, as a consequence, it is possible to reach the limit of resolution of the microscope while, at the same time, limiting the depth field to a very narrow range.
