Summary: | No-Twist finishing stands for rod mill Nippon Steel Corp's Hikari Works(Japan) driven by a new adjustable speed AC drive system, commenced operation on Dec. 1981. This drive system is a load commutated inverter(LCI) fed synchronous motor driven (Commutatorless DC motor) with a rating 3600 kW 700/1200 r/min which is one of the largest class adjustable speed AC drive for the rolling mill In the world. It has not only high accuracy, good dynamic performance and several excellent features equal to DC drive system, but also higher efficiency than that of DC drives. To be added to the above the motor space was reduced about half as conventional DC motor. As a result, initial cost of a drive system was also reduced. This paper describes the feature, configuration and operation characteristics of this system. Preparatory investigation to apply a LCI drive system to rod mill are also discussed. |
