Summary:What do repetitions and variations on a same pattern mean for an author of travelogues? This question is considered in light of the descriptions of the Arveyron cave, in the Chamonix valley, given by Bourrit (1739-1819), native of Geneva and author of about 10 publications on the Alps which are belonging to various travelogue subgenres: descriptions, excursion or expedition accounts, travelguides, etc.
