Summary:This paper studies gender-neutral language use by trans or non-binary people, in everyday communication, in order to outline the conditions related to it. Grounded on nine interviews, it suggests that (1) neutral language defines self-image; (2) trans-centered spaces are the welcoming place to neutral language; (3) gender-neutral communication establishes a strong community tie. These finds are framed on Foucault's ideas on gender and discourse.
