Summary: | The banana (Musa spp.) is originally from southern Asia, being considered the most consumed and produced fruit worldwide, including in Brazil. In Brazil, during harvesting and marketing, there is a great loss due to poor handling. Because of this, the commercialization of green bananas has become a strategy to reduce waste, in addition to being considered a good alternative for controlling glycidic metabolism, due to its high content of resistant starch in its composition. Therefore, the present work aims to study, through a bibliographic review, the benefits of green bananas and observe their relationship with blood glucose and glucose metabolism. The research was carried out in the databases (CAPES journals, Scielo, PubMed, Google Scholar) and articles were selected in Portuguese, English and Spanish, between the years 2006 to 2019. The studies showed the therapeutic potential of green bananas, rich in resistant starch, on glucose metabolism, with improvement in insulin resistance and glucose homeostasis. However, further studies must be carried out to determine the necessary amount of grammage for healthy individuals with pathologies. |
