Summary:This qualitative descriptive study aimed to identify factors that contribute to addressing domestic violence. In 2011, 14 professionals working in family health facilities in Bahia, Brazil, were interviewed. All ethical considerations were addressed. The study showed that identifying harm from conjugal violence and injury in women approaching health services, reporting suspected or confirmed cases, professionals' perceiving the complexity of the phenomenon, and intersectoral coordination with other areas of care all contribute to combating the problem. These components can inform public health efforts to raise professionals' awareness, and train and engage them to address problems, such as domestic violence, that threaten public health.
