Summary:Health-Related Physical Fitness (HRPF) assessment has been used as approach to analyze health status for different population groups. Some studies show a decrease in levels of physical fitness in children and adolescents and their association with overweight. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between Aerobic Endurance Test (9-minute-run/ walk test) as HRPF component and nutritional status of schoolchildren 10-14 years in the city of Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. The study included 756 students of public schools in the 1st and 4th districts. PROESP Protocol (2009) was used to evaluate the AFRS and SISVAN 2008 protocol to anthropometry. The prevalence of overweight scored 26.1% in 1st district, and 24.6%, in 4th district; among boys, the numbers were 23.3% and 22.2%; and between the girls, the occurrence counted 29.2% and 27.9% in the 1st and 4th district, respectively. In 9-minute-run/walk test, only 27% had satisfactory results, and in obese girls, only 7.9% had satisfactory results. The results of linear regression analysis showed that BMI was significantly associated with the outcome of 9 minutes test. The results of the aerobic capacity test showed high prevalence of inadequacy among students. BMI contributed with the test performance. Activities that encourage greater energy expenditure should be promoted in schools through the wider take in physical education classes; stimulating socio-cultural activities in order to promote inclusive approach.
