Summary:The aim of the study is to evaluate the frequency of pregnancy in women over 34 years old in Brazil and the relation between the different age groups and areas. It's a descriptive epidemiological work, with transversal design, conducted by search of the Brazilian government public database DATASUS (Tecnologia da Informacao a Servico do SUS). An increase in the proportion of deliveries in women over 34 years was observed in Brazil, 18.1% between 2006 and 2012. The greatest rise happened in the group between 35 and 39 being more significant on the Southeast (21%), South (18%) and Center-West (8%) areas. On the other hand the increase in pregnancies between 40 and 44 was restricted to the Southeast (7%) and Center-West (8%) areas. Pregnancy in wome over 45 presented the largest decrease in the study period: 38% on the North, 30% on the Northeast, 11% on the Southeast and 20% on the South. Only on the Center-West there was a rise (2%). We can conclude that there is a change taking place in the epidemiological profile of pregnant women in Brazil regarding age, with a progressive increase in maternal age and a larger percentage of pregnant women over 34 years old.
