Summary:Future prospection is one of the oldest and most intriguing human needs. Those who anticipate trends and act proactively have more chances of success than their competitors. Currently, future scenarios prospection that allows the development of continuous innovations is a highly competitive factor in business environment. Conscious of this fact, some institutions began using the prediction technique as a key factor for strategic planning. This study points out the importance of these techniques and presents the main concepts, models, advantages and proper methodology for the utilization of a technology roadmap in a company, considering that this approach has grown exponentially all over the world. However, only a few successful isolated empirical cases are presented in the literature.
