Summary: | This study aimed at comparing testimonies of visually-impaired men and women, participating in workshops on sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases (STD), and female and male contraceptive methods. It is a descriptive, qualitative, exploratory study. Five workshops took place from April, 2010 to May, 2010, at the Health Communication Lab of the Nursing Department of the Federal University of Ceara, Brazil. Their speeches were videotaped, transcribed, and analyzed by content analysis. Participants were seven men and seven women. Data analysis generated the following categories: the issue of sexuality; the use of the text To avoid STD, condoms must be used and the making of prosthesis for contraceptive use practice. Gender issues stood out in the conduction of the workshops. Women's silence in the presence of men highlights the need for educational experiments with and without the presence of both sexes. |
