Summary:Introduction: Crack users have a different body composition when they are undergoing treatment and/or abstinence from drugs. Objective: To evaluate the percentage of body fat and its associated factors in users of a Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drugs (CAPS AD) in Sao Luis - MA. Material and methods: Retrospective and analytical study, carried out with medical records of adult male users, attended from 2015 to 2017. The data were analyzed in the Stata[R] program version 16.0 through Poisson regression. The outcome variable was the percentage of body fat, calculated according to the body adiposity index (BPI). Results: Of the 120 medical records analyzed, 73.4% belonged to the age group of 20 to 39 years, 80% lived without a partner and 49.1% had complete or incomplete primary education. Regarding the IAC, 18.3% were above average. Living with a partner (OR: 3.32; CI= 1.07-10.2) was a risk factor for CAI. Discussion: The BAI is an index that allows diagnosing excess body composition, since the BMI is divergent when defining the nutritional profile of the Brazilian population. Conclusion: A significant number of chemical dependents with adiposity percentage above average was identified. Key words: Drug users. Illicit drugs. Adiposity. Drogas Ilicitas. Adiposidade.
