Summary:The present study aimed to observe the influence of different rest intervals between sets in strength training on acute muscle performance. 7 males, practitioners of strength training were divided into two groups (Short rest - N = 4, age: 25.0 ± 6.1 years, body mass: 84.3 ± 11.6kg, height: 1.8 ± 0.1m; Long rest N = 3, age: 28.3 ± 7.9 years, body mass: 76.0 ± 11.7kg, height: 1.7 ± 0.1 m) participated in the experiment. Strength training consisted of 4 sets of 10 repetitions maximum in full squat, with 1 minute rest between sets for the group of Short rest, and 3 minutes to the Long rest. Performance evaluation was performed by the horizontal countermovement jump (SHCM) test at Pre and Post-training. Plasma lactate concentrations were measured at Pre, Post and 15 minutes post-training. No significant differences (p> 0.05) between groups were observed for the total training load, as well as for the performance of SHCM. Lactate concentrations showed a significant increase (p <0.05) for both groups at Post and 15' Post relative to Pre, with no significant differences (p> 0.05) between them. The results lead us to conclude that for the experimental group analyzed (strength-trained individuals in) and the volume of exercises, sets and repetitions employed the 1 or 3 minutes rest intervals between sets did not induce different acute training loads and neuromuscular responses. Regardless the rest interval employed the metabolic profile of the training was not different between groups. Key words: Muscle damage, Metabolic stress, Muscle hypertrophy, Training load. O presente estudo objetivou observar a influencia de diferentes tempos de pausa entre as series no treinamento de forca no desempenho muscular agudo. Participaram do experimento 7 homens, praticantes de treinamento de forca e que foram divididos em dois grupos (Pausa curta - N = 4; idade: 25 ± 6,1 anos; massa corporal: 84,3 ± 11,6kg; altura: 1,8 ± 0,1m; Pausa longa - N = 3; idade: 28,3 ± 7,9 anos; massa corporal: 76 ± 11,7kg; altura: 1,7 ± 0,1m). O treinamento de forca consistiu de 4 series de 10 repeticoes maximas no agachamento completo, com 1 minuto de pausa entre series para o grupo de Pausa curta, e 3 minutos para o de Pausa longa. Para avaliacao do desempenho foi utilizado o teste de salto horizontal contra movimento (SHCM) nos momentos Pre, e Postreino. Concentracoes plasmaticas de lactato foram aferidas Pre, Pos e 15min Pos-treino. Nenhuma diferenca significante (p>0.05) entre os grupos foi observada para a carga total de treino, assim como o desempenho do SHCM. As concentracoes de lactato apresentaram um aumento significante (p<0.05) para os dois grupos nos momentos Pos e 15' Pos em relacao ao Pre, sem diferencas significantes (p>0.05) entre os mesmos. Os resultados nos levam a concluir que para o grupo experimental analisado (individuos treinados em forca) e o volume de exercicios, series e repeticoes empregadas, as pausas de 1 ou 3 minutos entre series nao induziram distintas respostas agudas em relacao as cargas de treino e desempenho neuromuscular. O carater metabolico do treino tambem nao foi diferente entre os grupos que, independentemente da pausa empregada, se mostrou anaerobio latico.
