Summary:The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different phases of menstrual cycle (follicular, ovulatory and luteal) in anthropometric and body composition values in university students with and without the use of hormonal contraceptives. 44 university students with age range from 18 to 35 years were divided into a control group (CG) who were contraceptives users (n = 24), and an experimental group (EG) who weren't contraceptive users (n = 20). Participants made three visits at laboratory, one in each phase of the cycle. Anthropometric values were measured for weight, height and circumference of the chest, waist, abdomen and thigh. For body composition values was estimated the percentage of fat and fat-free mass (FFM). No significant differences were obtained between the three phases of the cycle within-groups and between-groups (p > 0,05). In conclusion, it seems that the MC did not alter body composition and anthropometric values in university students, independently of the use of hormonal contraceptives. Key words: Measures, Evaluation, Menstrual cycle, Contraceptive agents.
