Summary:Using the histochemical methods, the activity of alkaline and acid phosphatase as well as the distribution of mucopolysaccharides were studied in the digestive tract of Silurus glanis L. The activity of alkaline phosphatase was found in the epithelial cells and in connective tissue propria. The activity of the enzyme gradually increases nearing the caudal intestine. The supranuclear region of the absorptive cells and numerous macrophages distributed in the propria and between the epithelial cells show a strong acid phosphatase activity. The presence of neutral mucopolysaccharides were observed in goblet cells and in the connective-tissue propria.
