Summary:Non-food use of vegetable oils, preliminary for substitution of mineral based fuels for internal combustion engines, is supported in many developed countries, motivated by economical and ecological reasons. In paper has been reviewed status and prospects on this issue in Germany with considerations of needed programme in Yugoslavia. The use of RME and native rapeseed oil as fuel, rapeseed oil for hydraulic fluids, lubrucants and for other purposes has been described. The decentralised production of native oil has been especially stressed. It was estimated that the use of vegetable oils as fuels and lubricants is in developed countries already adoppted in practice. Application of vegetable oil production and non-food use in Yugoslavia should be elaborated respecting specific agro-ecological and economical conditions. The comprehensive feasibility study is needed. Introduction of vegetable oils production and use should be realised by technology transfer - cooperation with institutions from developed countries.
