Fosetyl aluminium - a versatile fungicide for the control and protection of tropical crops against Phytophthora diseases

Trials from 1978 - 1980 with Fosetyl Aluminium have -demonstrated its ability to give long term protection and control of the major Phytophthora diseases of pineapples, citrus, durian, cocoa, rubber and orchids. In pineapple pre-plant dipping and post-planting sprays have given a high degree of protection against Phytopthora heart rot disease. Phytophthora gummosis of citrus, collar canker and root rot of durian have been well controlled by paints and foliar sprays. Sprays to the foliage, pods and branches of cocoa have given good protection against black pod. Good protection of rubber tapping penels against black stripe disease, has been achieved with aqueous paints. Weekly foliar sprays to orchids have given excellent protection against and control of Phytopthora rot. The selectivity of Fosetyl Aluminium has been excellent with no phytotoxicity being exhibited by any of the treatments described.
