Abstracts of insecticide evaluation (IRRI, 1979): timing of insecticide applications for BPH [brown planthopper] control [Philippines]

This study confirmed a case study where the economic injury level of the BPH (Brown Planthopper) was found to be about 20 insects/hill. Yield losses at 16 BPH/hill were 0.18 t, whereas losses at 32 BPH/hill were 0.86/ha. A loss of 0.18 t does not justify an insecticide treatment, whereas a loss of 0...

Summary:This study confirmed a case study where the economic injury level of the BPH (Brown Planthopper) was found to be about 20 insects/hill. Yield losses at 16 BPH/hill were 0.18 t, whereas losses at 32 BPH/hill were 0.86/ha. A loss of 0.18 t does not justify an insecticide treatment, whereas a loss of 0.86 t/ha would be about 4 times the cost of one insecticide application to control the BPH.
