Summary:This study was implemented from July 2010 to February 2011, aimed to describe and to analyze the relationship of actors participating in P. catfish (ca Tra) industry in the Mekong Delta. Primary data was collected from 4 provinces of Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Soc Trang, and Can Tho City, It reveals - Processors - Export (98.9%) of total fish production) ; and Channel 2: Fish farmers - Wholesalers - Retailers (1.1% of total fish production). The average fish production for each farmer was 1,011.2 tones/year, and the respective numbers were 823.9 tones; 9.8 tones and 14,454.3 tones for wholesalers, retailers, and processors. Fish farmers (and retailers in channel 2) shared significant contributions to total added value and net income per kg of raw fish, but wholesalers (channel 2) and processors took away most of total net income of the whole chain. The difficulties to both fish seed suppliers and farmers were unstable market, in particular, to fish farmers were the spread; and more frequent occur of fish diseases, and increasing price of feed. In the case of processors, lack of skillful man-power and insufficient supply of raw materials were more serious. Fish farmers and fish seed suppliers looked for better policies on the management of output markets that help to ensure their profit, and the credit supply for fish farming practices. In addition, processors need to increase labor-training activities, as well as to develop their own fish farming area and contract farmers for a better supply of raw fish.
