Summary:A review emphasizes the complexity associated with the multiple measurable aspects of hormonal levels and their functions, and identifies and discusses some of the problems connected with simplistic assessments of hormonal factors and their changes in obesity in order to classify types of obesity. A potential framework for evaluating the contributions of individually selected hormones to different classes of obesity is proposed and discussed, covering 7 types of hormones that differ between normal and obese subjects and/or across different obesity types.
