Summary:A study examined 11 professional ballerinas (ages 15-33) for bone density, hormonal status, dietary intake, subcutaneous fat, body composition, injury history, and orthopedic and gynecological status. The preliminary results indicated that these dancers have low bone-mineral mass, abnormal menstrual patterns, low reproductive hormone and body fat levels, and low daily caloric intakes. The finalized results of this study are planned for a separate publication.(wz)
