Summary:The objective of this research was to determine possibilities of using spent mushroom compost (SMC) as growing medium. Seven different mixtures were prepared from peat, perlite and SMC in this research. Performance of mixtures was investigated with begonia (Begonia semperflorens) growth. To hinder the effect of high level of water soluble salts on plant growth. SMC was leached at the beginning of the experiment. This process influenced positively the chemical properties of mixtures and horticultural parameters. SMC can be used in media, mixed with peat up to 50%. However, SMC should be aged and leached before using because of high levels of ammonium and water soluble salt contents
