Summary:Survey of rodent pests in barley field was carried out in Northern part of Thailand. A hundred live traps were used in this study and pieces of banana and sweet corn were used as bait materials. The live traps were placed on the dikes randomly for 2-3 consecutive nights and the bait materials were changed for fresh ones everyday. The population index of rodents were inspected during the growth stages of barley by the number of bait taking. It was found that Rattus rattus, Bandicota indica, B. savilei, Mus caroli and M. cervicoler were the rodent pests of barley. The percent damage of barley caused by rodents was assessed about 2 weeks prior to the harvesting time and found that the average percent damages of barley due to rodents were 3.25 percent. The efficacy of 4 chronic rodenticides was asessed for controlling of rodent damage to barley. Each rodenticide was applied at the rate of 1 kg per 10 rai for each round baiting (3 baitings in total). From the result of these experiments, it was found that brodifacoum, flocoumafen, bromadiolone and difethialone wax blocks could be used to control rodent in barley field efficiently. In barley store, it was found that PVC tubes which were contained flocoumafen wax blocks and put down along the four sides of the store gave good result for controlling rodent pests in barley store.
