Summary:The objective of this paper was to find out the gross energy value of corn silages used for biogas production determined by two various methods. Corn silage samples were taken away from the agricultural companies situated in the western (Hurbanovo, Malý Cetín, Chynorany) and central part (Sebechleby and Hontianske Nemce) of Slovakia. The gross energy was determined by direct calorimetric method and indirect method by calculation according to Schiemann et al. (1972). The calorimetric gross energy ranged from 18.50 to 19.18 MJ per kg of dry matter. The highest gross energy value was marked in corn silage with the second lowest dry matter content (285.9 g per kg). The calculated gross energy (Schiemann et al., 1972) varied from 18.59 to 18.78 MJ per kg of dry matter. Gross energy values determined calorimetrically were generally higher than values determined by calculation.
