Summary:The aim of the study was on the base of agro-food commodities development to point out possible causes of price rising in case of key agricultural commodities (cereals, meat, milk, dairy) in the global and regional point of view. Apart from short-term and long-term factors having effect on price development there are also considered possible impacts of climate changes and converting crops to biofuels in the study. The FAO index of food prices fell to a nine-month low of 188 points in September 2008 (1998-2000=100). The sharp decline in the index reflected the rapid decrease in prices of all major food and feed commodities, which steadily rose since early 2006, climbing to a record 219 points in June 2008. Further agro-food commodities development in connection to fading food crisis and continuing economic depression is hardly predictable.
