Summary:The paper describes different principles of soil moisture determination, based on conductivity, permeability and potentials. The principle of parallel measurements of penetration resistance and soil moisture at the defined depth is a serious experiment to improve and speed up in situ determination of state of soil conditions. For solving we utilized our experiences from penetration measuring by a penetrometer P-BDH 3A. Two insulated electrodes at penetrometer tip were used as sensing element. After pushing the penetrometer tip into soil, the soil surrounding the sensor at tip represents changeable resistance and capacity that vary with a change in water content of soil. Two sorts of soil - sandy loam (HP) and clay loam (IH) - were used for experimental measurements. Soil moisture measuring by the use of the resistance principle we designed has no linear dependence and based on calibration curves, we estimate measurement accuracy to be in a range of 8-11%. Design modifications and larger measurement surfaces will make it possible to achieve better results.
