Summary:Levels of metals (Cu, Ni, Cr, Pb, Cd, As, Co, Hg, Fe, Zn) in sunflower seeds and rapeseeds, produced in the region of Slovakia from 1994 to 1996 were studied. Overlimited contents of chromium, nickel, and mercury in sunflower seeds in 1994 were determined. The smae fact was confirmed in 1995, while in 1996 maximum limit values were exceeded excepting content of chromium in 20 % of samples. In 1994 and 1995, only chromium and nickel in rapeseeds exceeded the highest permissible levels, while the contents of the other metals were lower. Methods of atomic absorption spectrometry using graphite furnace and flame in metal determination were used
