Summary:Slovakia has never had a homogeneous landscape, neither ecologically nor aesthetically nor architectonically. Relief configuration, distribution of watercourses, floral structure, and differentiated anthropogenic activities have resulted in the individual character of its landscape. Creation of landscape is complicated and long-lasting. Various disproportions and conflicts concerning different artificial (technical) elements almost always occur during development. Landscape vegetation is characteristic of its biodiversity. Cultivated plant communities (cultural phytoconoses), besides their important economic and ecological functions, must be also formed with a view to increasing the aesthetic value of the landscape
